Quote from Nancy Joyce on May 7, 2023, 11:51 pmThis means the ability to break down words into their individual phonemes, or sounds. It is the opposite process of phonemic blending, which involves combining sounds to form words. By recognizing the individual sounds in a word, children can match them to the corresponding letters or letter combinations. It is also helpful for decoding unfamiliar words and when encountering a new word. Being able to segment words into individual phonemes allows children to blend those sounds together and pronounce the word accurately.
